IDF Strikes Hezbollah Following Inaction by Ceasefire Monitors

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Monday that it targeted several Hezbollah positions in Lebanon overnight, citing violations of the ceasefire agreement. The strikes followed the failure of international ceasefire monitors to address the reported threats, despite being informed by the IDF.

Among the targets hit were a rocket launcher, a military site, and smuggling routes from Syria into Lebanon, which the IDF claimed were used to transport weapons to Hezbollah.

The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terror organization, has been in place since November 27. This followed over a year of cross-border attacks by Hezbollah and two months after Israel launched a significant military campaign against the group.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft targeted areas on the outskirts of Janta in the eastern Baalbek region, as well as locations near Nabatieh in the south. The report did not mention any casualties.

The IDF stated that it had previously informed the international truce mechanism about Hezbollah’s violations, but no actions were taken in response.

“The IDF remains committed to addressing any threats to the State of Israel and will take necessary actions to prevent Hezbollah from rearming, in line with the ceasefire agreements,” the military said in its statement.
