Tragic Terror Attack in Northern Israel Leaves 13 Injured

In a devastating incident on Thursday, a Palestinian man carried out a terror attack at the Karkur Junction near Pardes Hanna, resulting in 13 individuals being injured, including a 17-year-old girl who is in critical condition.

The terrorist, identified as 53-year-old Jamil Zayoud from the Jenin area in the West Bank, had been residing illegally in Israel with his Arab Israeli wife. He drove his vehicle into a crowd waiting at a bus stop, causing significant injuries. Following the ramming, Zayoud attempted to flee the scene but was confronted by police officers. Armed with a screwdriver, he tried to stab the officers, who then shot and killed him.

Medical teams from Magen David Adom (MDA) promptly arrived at the scene. The critically injured 17-year-old girl was transported to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, where she is receiving intensive care for severe head and limb injuries. Additionally, a 60-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman sustained serious injuries, while an 18-year-old woman was moderately injured. Several others suffered minor injuries and were treated accordingly.

This attack comes in the wake of heightened tensions in the region. Just a week prior, three empty buses were targeted with explosive devices in the Tel Aviv suburbs of Bat Yam and Holon. Fortunately, those incidents did not result in casualties, but they have contributed to an atmosphere of increased vigilance and concern among residents.

The Hamas organization has praised the recent attack, referring to it as a “message of defiance.” However, they have not officially claimed responsibility for the incident.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the attacker’s background and potential affiliations. Preliminary reports indicate that Zayoud had a prior indictment in 2021 for driving without a license.

In response to the attack, security measures have been intensified across the region to prevent further incidents and to ensure the safety of the public. The community remains on high alert as officials urge citizens to report any suspicious activities.
