Grenade and “Congratulations” Note Found at Regional Council Head’s Home

Today (Tuesday), at the entrance to the home of Amit Sofer, head of the Merom HaGalil Regional Council, located in the Bar Yohai community in Israel, a grenade was discovered alongside flowers and a note reading “Congratulations.” The discovery was made by Sofer’s son upon returning from school.

Police forces and bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The background and motive for the incident are currently unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. The recent elections in Merom HaGalil were held just over two weeks ago, after a delay of more than a year due to the war in the north, during which Sofer was re-elected for a second term with 69.19% of the votes.

The Merom HaGalil Regional Council stated: “The background is unclear, and currently a police investigation is underway at the scene. Further details will be provided as they become available.” The police updated that an investigation has been opened following a suspicious object believed to be a weapon placed at the entrance to a house in the Bar Yohai community. “Officers and bomb disposal experts from the Northern District are at the scene and have begun investigating the circumstances of the incident,” they reported.
