Ukraine Launches Massive Attack on Moscow

In the early hours of Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Moscow experienced an unprecedented aerial assault as Ukrainian forces launched a significant drone attack targeting the Russian capital. This operation, marking the largest of its kind since the onset of the conflict, resulted in casualties and substantial disruptions to the city’s infrastructure.

According to reports, approximately 69 drones were deployed in the attack. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that 11 drones were intercepted in the Ramensky and Domodedovo districts, while the remaining drones were neutralized en route to the city. The assault led to the tragic death of one individual and injuries to several others. Residential areas were affected, with seven apartments in the Ramensky district sustaining damage, and a building roof in Moscow was compromised. In response to the threat, flights at four major Moscow airports, including Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, were temporarily restricted, and train services through Domodedovo station were halted.

Mayor Sobyanin addressed the public via the Telegram messaging platform, stating that “at the moment, the roof of a building in Moscow has been slightly damaged by falling debris from a downed UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle).” He further noted that there were no injuries, according to preliminary reports.

It is pertinent to acknowledge that, throughout the duration of the conflict, there have been instances where Russian state and state-controlled media have disseminated disinformation as part of their information warfare strategies against Ukraine. These efforts have aimed to manipulate narratives and public perception regarding the events unfolding in the region.

This drone offensive coincided with a Ukrainian delegation’s participation in discussions held in Saudi Arabia, aiming to explore avenues for concluding the protracted three-year war with Russia. The timing of the attack underscores the escalating tensions and the complexities involved in the ongoing conflict.
