Freed Hostage Yarden Bibas Appeals to Trump: “Help End the War and Bring Them Home”
Yarden Bibas, recently freed from captivity in Gaza, has publicly called upon U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene in ending the ongoing conflict and to facilitate the release of remaining hostages. In an interview on CBS’s ’60 Minutes,’ Bibas implored, “Please stop this war and help bring all of the hostages back.” He emphasized his belief in President Trump’s influence, stating, “I know he can help. I’m here because of Trump. I’m here only because of him.”
Bibas’s appeal reflects a broader sentiment among families of hostages, who feel that U.S. intervention is crucial in pressuring the Israeli government towards negotiations for their loved ones’ release. This perspective arises amidst concerns that the Israeli government’s decision to resume military operations in Gaza could further endanger the hostages still held there. Currently, approximately 59 individuals remain captive, with about 24 believed to be alive.
Public opinion in Israel appears to align with Bibas’s plea. A recent Channel 12 poll indicated that 69 percent of Israelis support ending the conflict in exchange for the release of the remaining hostages. Despite this, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains that continuing military operations is necessary to prevent Hamas from retaining power.
