Israel Condemns Hamas’ Manipulation in Hostage Deal
Israeli officials have strongly denounced the recent announcement by Hamas offering to release one living captive and the bodies of four others, all of whom were dual citizens of the United States and Israel. The government has labeled this move as a manipulative tactic intended to apply pressure on Israel and the families of hostages while evading broader agreements for a ceasefire and the comprehensive return of all captives.
The living hostage mentioned is Edan Alexander, an IDF soldier holding US-Israeli citizenship, whose family has been awaiting his return since the beginning of the current conflict. Alongside him, Hamas claimed they would transfer the remains of four deceased hostages, likewise dual citizens. Israeli officials stressed that this announcement was not part of a negotiated framework and was instead designed to manipulate public opinion and sow division within Israel.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu convened meetings with key ministers and security officials to evaluate the development. The Israeli leadership remains committed to achieving the release of all hostages held in Gaza, rejecting piecemeal offers that do not include a sustainable and secure resolution. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized that Israel would not yield to such psychological tactics, reaffirming that military and diplomatic efforts will continue in tandem.
Negotiators who had been engaged in discussions in Doha returned to Israel to consult with government leaders. The atmosphere remains tense, but Israeli representatives reiterated their unwavering stance: no agreement will be accepted unless it safeguards Israel’s long-term security and results in the return of all captives.
